Description
The small island of Ailsa Craig off the west of Scotland contains a very rare type of granite, the qualities of which are ideal for making curling stones, the Winter Olympics discipline of sliding a stone across the ice towards a target. The company Kays Curling has had the sole licence to harvest granite from the island for curling stones since 1851, polishing them to exquisite smoothness before they are delivered to competitors.
