Due to soaring inflation rising electricity bills, low-income families in Turkey are being forced to cut back on spending for food and some have stopped heating their homes during the cold winter months to save money. Spending most of their income on rent and utilities, many families such as the Alayumat family living in the working-class Gazi neighborhood of Istanbul feel squeezed as it becomes harder for them to provide, even the basics, for their children.
