Description
The British government has started a scheme allowing residents to offer accommodation to Ukrainian refugees, with over 100,000 people registering to help within the first 24 hours of the ‘Homes For Ukraine’ website opening. 32 year-old teacher Nick Beever and his wife live in Croydon, Greater London, and have volunteered to house a refugee in their guest room. "Helping people is one of those duties you have as a member of society," says Nick, "and I think the majority of the people in the UK feel the same way." From Friday March 18 people who know a refugee can apply to have them come over, but the scheme is also set to open to Ukrainians without personal contacts in the UK. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
