Description
At 68, Brahim Benaïcha clearly remembers the years he spent in a slum in Nanterre, west of Paris, where more than 10,000 people lived from the 1950s when labourers, mostly from the Maghreb colonies, flooded into France. When the Algerian war ended 60 years ago, they became the symbol of the isolation of foreigners who lived in "inhumane" conditions. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
