Residents of the German State of Saarland will vote on Sunday to renew their Parliament and government, in the first regional poll after Olaf Scholz' election as German Chancellor. Currently governed by a "grand coalition" headed by the conservative CDU, Saarland could see electoral change as the Social Democratic Party's top candidate Anke Rehlinger leads in the polls. As a "region in transition", as one resident puts it, the issue of how the region will adapt to the decline of its steel industry is at the forefront of voter priorities.
