Description
The trial of a member of the brutal Islamic State (IS) kidnap-and-murder cell known as the "Beatles" in a US federal court "offers a greater deal of transparency and accountability in the public's eye," than in a military commission, an analyst in Washington, DC says as the jury selection in the trial of El Shafee Elsheikh begins. "It offers the opportunity for victims, including sex slaves and Yazidi victims that we're likely to hear from, to bear testimony in the light of day in a federal court," adds Andrew Mines, research fellow at George Washington University.
