Description
NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA), the only flying astronomical observatory in the world, opens to the media for a preview day at Santiago's International airport, Chile. SOFIA’s airbound telescope uses the Chilean clear skies to observe the Magellanic Clouds, sort of mini-galaxies that are part of the Milky Way and only visible from the southern hemisphere.
