Description
Canada is the world's largest producer of wild furs, but few manage to make a living anymore solely in the fur trade, which dates back 400 years to the first Indigenous trades of pelts to European explorers. Now, Canada's oldest industry will have to cope with the lack of access to markets in Ukraine and Russia -- the latter being the world's second-largest for fur but facing Canadian and allied economic sanctions. "As it is a luxury market, naturally we are affected immediately, either with Covid or with the war," says fur seller Michel Roberge.
