Description
Zimbabwe seeks the support of the European Union to selloff US$600 million worth of ivory it has accumulated due to the global ban on the sale of tasks. International trade in ivory has been banned since 1989 under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority director-general Fulton Mangwanya calls on EU ambassadors for support, saying, "elephants succumb to natural attrition after all, we collect all such ivory for safekeeping but at a cost."
