Description
Amid shellings as Ukrainian army fights to contain the Russian army's advances, residents of towns near to the front line in the Donetsk region have mixed feelings on whether they should stay or should they go. Some leave because the Russian invasion has left them with nothing, like widow Dmytro Mosur, whose wife was killed by shrapnel to the head, waiting for a bus out of town with their twin daughters. Others stay because they feel they cannot, like businesswoman Natalia Ryazantseva, who refuses to leave what she calls "our land" despite the protests of her daughter in France and son in Poland. And there are those who cannot leave because of their age or their vulnerability, those who coal miner Sergiy Tokarev braves gunfire and mortar blasts to evacuate in his now-rickety van riddled with bullet holes. "If I am fated to die here I will die here. But if not then I will continue to pull people out," he says. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
