Description
South Korean writer Bora Chung discusses how her Booker prize-nominated collection of short stories "Cursed Bunny" was inspired by her own lonely life.
"I was a student for a long time, I did not date anyone, and I was wandering abroad alone," says Chung. "So all I could think was if I suddenly fell pregnant and gave birth, I would just die with my child."
Her stories, which combine science fiction, horror and fantasy, are not considered "pure" literature by Seoul's cultural elite. Until recently, she was relatively unknown to local readers.
But her life took a dramatic turn when her 2017 collection "Cursed Bunny" caught the eye of translator Anton Hur, and the English edition of her book was named a finalist for this year's International Booker Prize. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
