Description
Ahead of the 33rd anniversary of Beijing's deadly 1989 crackdown on democracy protesters on Tiananmen Square, sculptors Jens Galschiot and Chen Weiming told AFP that the removal of their artworks in Hong Kong commemorating the massacre is to erase memory about June 4 and to "wipe out a shameful episode" in history.
Both sculptures along with other June 4 monuments which had stood on Hong Kong's university campuses for decades were removed late last year amid China's crackdown on the city's pro-democracy movement. SOUNDBITES and FILE IMAGES
