Description
Conservative MPs are coming to different conclusions as to whether British Prime Minister Boris Johnson should remain as their leader, following the announcement that enough letters of no-confidence have been submitted to trigger a wider vote within the Parliamentary party. John Penrose MP has announced he has resigned as the government’s Anti-Corruption Champion over the matter, saying the Sue Gray report into illegal gatherings at 10 Downing Street during Covid lockdowns shows the Prime Minister has broken the Ministerial Code and should step down. Meanwhile another Brexit-backing Conservative, Jacob-Rees Mogg, says Boris Johnson is a strong leader with a mandate from the British people, and that some of those attacking him are doing so because they disagree with the outcome 2016 Brexit referendum.
