Description
In Lysychansk, in the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, people face a painful choice: to stay and risk their lives in a city already battered by shelling, or to leave their homes without knowing where to go. Across the river, Ukrainian soldiers are fighting one of the "most difficult battles" in Severodonetsk since the war began on 24 February, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. Those who stay face having to collect their drinking water in tough conditions: "it’s hard to go there, the slope is very steep. And it is being shelled there every day; so we have to go there under shelling, and under fire," says Yevhen Zhyryada. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
