An academic with the 'UK In A Changing Europe' research group says that Britain could see "significant economic consequences" as a result of plans to unilaterally alter the Northern Ireland Protocol which governs trade links between Northern Ireland, the EU and the rest of the UK. Alan Wager says that the move could provoke a trade war with the EU, but that it could take more than a year for the legislation to be implemented, by which time the political landscape in the UK could have changed.
