Description
Images of stone fish weirs located in Jibei Islet of Taiwan's Penghu Islands. Some dating back more than 300 years ago, Penghu residents have been building stone weirs to trap fishes when the tide recedes. Taiwan's cultural ministry estimated there are close to 600 weirs still remaining in Penghu, making it first in the world in terms of numbers and density.
Panama-registered freighter Fortune is also seen stranded off Jibei islet. The cargo ship ran aground on October 17, 2021 after suffering a mechanical failure during bad weather. Taiwan's maritime authorities finally towed it in June after nearly 8 months of being stranded. STOCKSHOTS
