Cypriot activists march toward the presidential palace in the capital Nicosia to protest against the government's development plan in the Akamas peninsula, a largely unspoiled coastal area situated on the western point of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus, and home to one of the few sea turtle nesting spots in the region. Protesters want the entire Akamas Peninsula designated a national park, biosphere reserve, or protected area with a corresponding international protection regime, the demolition of illegal structures and the restoration of environmental damage.
