Winding down a snaking path of rugged rock down the Mercan Valley of Tunceli with a hazy view of the mountains still topped with snow the voice of a man screaming on top of his lungs rings. The man is Abdullah, a 55-year-old Afghan shepherd calling out to his flock. He is among dozens of Afghans whom the local sheep and goat farmers entrust their animals with on the pastures located at over 2000 metres above the sea level, teeming with wildlife and all wrapped in darkness except by the dim moonlight during the night.
