Description
Local leaders and family members of victims of the deadly Morandi bridge collapse speak ahead of the trial which will begin on the 7th of July at the Court of Genoa. The highway in the northwestern Italian city gave way in torrential rain on August 14 four years ago, flinging cars and lorries into the abyss and killing 43 people. There are only a few relatives who have renounced the compensation offered by Aspi, the company managing the particular section of the motorway. Meanwhile, a number of shops have closed in the Valpolcevera district nearby, as the collapse of the bridge continues to affect the local population. A survivor also tells of the horrifying ordeal, describing how he thought he "was going to die". IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
