Description
The Washburn Fire has burnt 3,221 acres, and is now contained at 22%, with 649 firefighters assigned to the fire engulfing California's Yosemite National Park. Some progress has been made over the past 48 hours, but conditions remain dangerous, with temperatures rising over 35°C (95°F), extreme drought, and dead wood in some part of the forest. The Southern part of Yosemite National Park remains closed to the public. "No sequoia trees have been damaged. No sequoia trees are in immediate threat," says Mark Ruggiero from the Yosemite National Park Fire department. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
