Description
Thousands of LGBTQ supporters gather at Seoul City Hall Plaza for the Seoul Queer Culture Festival for the first time in three years because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants in the parade, which was also attended by the US and Irish ambassadors, welcome its return yet feel that "South Korean society still has a long way to go" on attitudes towards LGBTQ people. Outside of the police-barricaded plaza, a counter-protest against gay rights goes ahead, with one protester telling AFP that they "pity their sinful culture". The police barricades were put up to separate the two large groups and prevent any clashes. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
