Description
Hundreds of young people in Goma, a town in North Kivu in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, took to the streets to protest against the presence of the United Nations Organisation Mission in Congo (MONUSCO). The UN mission's soldiers are accused of passivity in carrying out their mandate to protect civilians and stabilise the east of the country, a region troubled by armed violence for a quarter of a century. The protesters also accuse MONUSCO of being in cahoots with certain armed groups following its 'inability' to deal with the Ugandan ADF and M23 rebels active in North Kivu. IMAGES
