Iraqi Kurdish farmer Sherko Aziz Ahmed uses a shovel to dig irrigation ditches for water supplied from a well and turns on a pump to draw out water from the well, at a farm in Rania district near Dukan Dam, northwest of the northeastern city of Sulaymaniyah in the autonomous Kurdistan region. Today, Lake Dukan is thirsty and the farmers are struggling to irrigate. "Now we have only 41 percent, below half of the capacity," says the director of the dam Kochar Jamal Tawfeeq.
