After several days of deadly demonstrations demanding the departure of the United Nations' peacekeeping mission MONUSCO from the Democratic Republic of Congo, 10 people (three peacekeepers and seven demonstrators) were killed in the town of Butembo, an important regional commercial hub in the east of the country.
