Whilst their families and friends suffer the effects of war in Ukraine, some of the refugees who fled to Germany find comfort in praying for peace. Many come to sit in the pews of the Philippus-Nathanael Protestant Church in Berlin, which now hosts Orthodox services. "Ukrainians in Berlin have been helping their country for some time now," says the church's Orthodox priest, Oleh Polianko, who attributes the growth and closeness of the community to the shedding "of the blood of the Ukrainian people".
