Description
Sudanese women and men show their traditional tribal facial marks, an ancient practice that was once common among African tribes. The practice has greatly diminished over the years with many seeing it as unsanitary, archaic, and obsolete. "They took me when I was seven years old, and I cried. They told me that I should have these facial marks as it's a sign of beauty", says Kholoud Massaed, a woman from the Hadaria tribe, in her home in the village of Om Maghad, some 66km south of Khartoum.
