Description
The former Struthof-Natzweiler concentration camp, relatively unknown still, was the only one on French soil, in annexed Alsace, and one of the deadliest of the Nazi concentration camps. From May 1941 to April 1945, some 52,000 deportees aged 11 to 78 from all over Europe were interned at Struthof and its nebula of annex camps, grouped on either side of the Rhine under the name of Konzentrationslager-Natzweiler. Nearly 22,000 never returned. Archaeologists excavate the quarry of the site, in search of elements to understand the organization of the camp and learn more about its functioning.
