One month before Italy's national elections, due to be held on September 25, the future of the Five Star Movement seems bleak. Even in the south of the country, where this 'anti-system' political party in 2018 gathered enough votes to give it one third of the outgoing Parliament, support is drying up. Despite recent efforts by Five Star leader and former prime minister Giuseppe Conte, to revive the party's popular credibility, four years in government has rendered it barely recognisable.
