Description
Makeshift camps have sprung up all over Pakistan to give shelter to millions of displaced flood victims. But the lack of proper showers and toilets has led to hygiene problems and waterborne diseases including gastroenteritis and diarrhea.
"One of the main reasons behind gastroenteritis is that there are no washrooms here. The situation is that they have to venture into the floodwater to relieve themselves," Dr Ehsan Ayaz told AFP at a makeshift tent clinic.
The situation has also been extremely hard for female victims.
"We used to live behind the veil, but God has removed that veil for us. Someone needs to hear our voice and do something. Someone needs to put up a curtain here and make if not two, then one washroom for women," flood victim Zebunnisa Bibi said. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
