Description
In Denmark, ahead of the celebrations of Queen Margrethe II's 50th anniversary, 50 pedestals are on display to celebrate Danish women, highlighting the lack of female representation in public spaces. Part of the "Golden days" festival, the exhibition, which lasts until 18 September, is a way to bring women alive and focus on their impact, explains one of its creator. The world renowned author Karen Blixen, the painter Lili Elbe, one of the first transgender women, and the scientist Sophie Brahe are among the women selected.
On each pedestal, visitors can scan a QR code and learn about the life of the woman represented. "It is about time that focus is put on these women and that they are given a place, a very public place in the centre of Copenhagen", approves Louise, a visitor to the exhibition. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
