"There is no choice. Until the fire brigade arrives, we'll try to limit the damage, even if it is already massive," says a volunteer who is fighting fires in Gironde, while firefighters are busy trying to put out a nearby house on fire. Some 1,800 hectares of forest have been burned since Monday.
