Description
Interest in visiting La Palma, one of the tourism-dependent Canary Island archipelago's less visited sites, has been rising since the Tajogaite Volcano erupted on Sept 19, 2021. The number of direct flights from mainland Spain and elsewhere in Europe has increased. "It's a totally different experience, it's like walking on a new planet, called Isla Bonita" says one tourist on a guided tour of the island.
After the eruption, different activities have taken off, such as guided tours in the volcano restricted area. Nicknamed "La Isla Bonita" or "The Beautiful Island", La Palma is home to unspoiled nature including verdant forests, rocky peaks and open desert. The entire island was declared a Unesco biosphere reserve in 2002. IMAGES
