Description
Eight cheetahs leave Namibia for India, decades after their extinction in the South Asian country, as part of an ambitious project to reintroduce the spotted big cats. The five female and three male cheetahs were carefully selected to be part of the repopulation programme by the Cheetah Conservation Fund near Namibia's Otjiwarongo. "India hasn't had cheetahs for about 80 years, they went extinct due to human conflict and hunting, so the cheetahs that we are sending today are a gift to India from Namibia," said Becky Johnston at the fund as the cheetahs were loaded on the trucks on Friday to be flown to their new habitat. They were released into the Indian wild after arriving on Saturday. COMPLETES VIDEOS 32JK44V, 32JK3QP, AND 32JK3EV IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
