Description
Nearly one ton of plastic waste is turned into art, instead of rubbish, thanks to an "upcycled art" project in the Venezuelan city of Guatire, 50 kilometres from Caracas, which aims to build a mural with thousands of recycled plastic caps. Hundreds of people participated in the artwork, promoted by artists and environmental organisations, to bring a message of change to this Caribbean country with a poor recycling culture. "It doesn't matter how many garbage cans you have on site," says Michelle Delgado, founder of a recycling club, "it is not about quantity but about civic awarness". The work, which aims to become the 'world's largest ecological mural', has received such favourable reactions that its prometers have received more than one million pieces since it started in August 9.
