Description
As a monster truck crushes cars to the crowd's delight as part of a free Detroit Auto Show event, visitors flock to take pictures of Bigfoot 20, the world's first electric monster truck. The Ford-built model, which weighs around 11,000 pounds, marks its 10th anniversary this year, having made its public debut in 2012, and is so far the only monster truck with a battery-powered electric motor. It might remain so according to monster truck driver Elliott Miller: "I don't know that it necessarily has the promise to become its own class," he tells AFP after crushing several cars aboard his gasoline-powered "Sinistar" truck. Electric vehicles or not, local residents enjoy the return of the Detroit Auto Show, after a pandemic-related hiatus: "I missed it. I used to come every year since I was about 13," says 76-year-old Charlie Thornton Jr. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
