"Even if these protest marches are peaceful they generate losses for the State," says Peru's President Dina Boluarte, as protests calling for the resignation of the current government following the impeachment of Pedro Castillo could be revived in January. Boluarte, who was vice-president, took over Peru's government after leftist Castillo attempted to shut down Congress on December 7 without institutional backing and was eventually detained for investigation for allegedly inciting popular rebellion.
