Description
Virunga National Park, located in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, finds itself trapped in the midst of an insurgency by M23 rebels accused of being supported by Rwanda. The rebels have conquered large swathes of territory in recent months, forcing civilians to flee to a village 8km north of Goma on the Rwandan border. Under the helpless gaze of the authorities, the displaced and members of local armed groups invade the park and mine coal there. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
