Images show police officers at Freedom City shopping mall in Kampala, the site of a stampede that killed at least nine people. After New Year's fireworks outside the mall, "a stampede ensued, resulting in the instant deaths of five people and injuries to several others," police spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire said. Four others died on their way to hospital "largely due to suffocation". IMAGES
