The trial of two radicalised men suspected of planning an "imminent" attack, foiled five days before the first round of the 2017 French presidential election, opened at the Special Assize court in Paris. Raphaël Kempf, a lawyer for one of the defendants, lashes out at a "special jurisdiction whose objective is to punish the most surely and most severely", without "popular jurors".
