Description
Like every other day this week, holdout residents of the Ukrainian front-line city of Bakhmut flock to a humanitarian aid centre, searching for food and internet access. And like every other day this week, the sound of both outgoing and incoming shelling can be heard into the afternoon. A brief ceasefire declared by Putin earlier this week was supposed to begin at 0900 GMT Friday and would have been the first full pause since Moscow's invasion in February 2022. Tetyana Scherbak, a volunteer at the aid centre, says "I do not know how true it is. There have already been many loud statements from the Russians, but they never kept their promises, unfortunately." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
