As the UK announces a ban on the use of single-use plastic cutlery, plates and bowls at takeaway restaurants, there’s concern among some fast food vendors. Francisco Pritel of Machi’s BBQ in Wandsworth says wooden forks aren’t robust enough for the steaks they serve, and that it’s hard to source starch-based alternatives even before the October ban comes in. The chef at next-door Wandsworth Rotisserie, on the other hand, is pleased about the change. “The more people who are using it, then it becomes the norm and the price comes down.
