Description
Fifteen private clinics across Ukraine have united under the umbrella of the "Non-flammable" project, that sets out to help victims of Russian agression treat severe burns and scars. One of the project´s patients is Natalia Yuhmanova, an economist that lived in Mariupol when Russia began its full-scale invasion. Natalia was wounded during air bombardment in early March, and has since went through numerous operations. "The best time for me now is going to sleep at night," says Natalia before her laser procedure, "When my children are falling asleep, when no one can see me. I only have one wish - to wake up like I was before." While still recovering from physical injuries, Natalia struggles with the mental toll of what happened to her. "I used to have long hair, and I was blonde. I loved being blonde. I always had makeup on. I was very active." Maksym Turkevich, the head of the "Non-flammable" project, hopes his organisation can help more people like Natalia. "Around 50 or 60 patients are part of the project now, and we are gradually increasing our capabilities, to help even more people." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
