Description
Protest artist Elena Osipova opens an exhibit of her paintings denouncing Russia’s offensive in Ukraine, despite government efforts to snuff out any criticism. During the opening in Russia's second largest city, Saint Petersburg, Osipova says she is not afraid of speaking out. "What could be worse than what is happening?" says the activist dubbed "the conscience of Saint Petersburg." Osipova first staged a protest in 2002, after Chechen gunmen stormed a Moscow theatre and took 850 people hostage. Since then she has held regular protests and been arrested several times.
