Description
The United Ukrainian Ballet is a dance company but also a "diplomatic mission" according to its members, who are mainly Ukrainian refugees who fled their country in the months following the Russian invasion. Based in The Hague, they made their US debut with their interpretation of "Giselle" on Wednesday at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and intend to bring Ukrainian culture to the world. "When we sing the Ukrainian anthem on the stage after the performance... we are fighting for our freedom," says 27-year-old ballet dancer Svitlana Onipko.
