Description
Revellers dress in their finest masks and period costumes as a procession of boats float along the Grand Canal in Venice, with many of the rowers also donning traditional masks. The procession is led by the legendary 'Pantegana', or rat, one of the symbols of the carnival, which erupts and releases dozens of colourful balloons into the sky. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
