Description
A relative of some of those killed after a ship carrying about 200 migrants came apart and sank off southern Italy on Sunday recounts the phone calls he had with relatives before the incident. "She called just before four, and said we're about to arrive, we see the beach we see the lights" says Mohamed Djafari, who drove 22 hours from Germany to Crotone, "another call came in and said... twenty to eleven, in the morning, she called and said 'please, Mohamed, come help me, I have no idea what to do". Djafari's 40-year-old cousin, who survived and is in hospital, was travelling with four of her children; her 10-year-old son also survived and is with her in hospital, while her 17-year-old daughter died and her seven-year-old daughter is still missing. On Wednesday, survivors of the shipwreck and relatives of those killed prayed and wept over the coffins of the 67 victims so far recovered and brought to Crotone, Calabria.
