Malian students and others living abroad arrive on the tarmac at Bamako on their return from Tunisia after boarding repatriation flights, fearful of a wave of violence since the president launched a tirade against migrants. Last month President Kais Saied ordered officials to take "urgent measures" to tackle irregular migration, claiming without evidence that "a criminal plot" was underway "to change Tunisia's demographic makeup". "I didn't go out any more, I didn't go to school any more", says Abramane Doumbia, "delighted" to "see [his] family". "These flights will continue until all our compatriots who are in Tunisia and wish to return to Mali return to their country," promises the Malian Minister of Defence Sadio Camara, who came to welcome them.
