Description
In the humid Colombian jungle under plastic tents, Commander Hernan Zapata, a member of the dissident FARC guerrilla fighter group "Rafael Aguilera Front 30," talks to AFP ahead of new peace negotiations, this time with leftist President Gustavo Petro. "We believe that perhaps with him, we can reach agreements that favour the Colombian people," Zapata says. This faction of fighters in the southwestern department of Nariño decided not to lay down their weapons in 2017 as the bulk of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) did when they signed a historic agreement with the government in 2016.
