Description
With an elderly man rushing after them asking for advice, a group of helmeted lawyers patrols the neighbourhood of Aksaray in Antakya, southern Turkey. Bar associations in Turkey's 81 provinces have been sending their members to areas hit by last month's 7.8-magnitude earthquake to collect all the data they can from the remaining rubble of buildings that collapsed. "We come here and take photographs of the buildings, the materials used in the buildings" explains Ahmet Kandemir, a lawyer from the Hatay Bar, "all of these will be used as the basis of evidence in the court proceedings." The earthquake, which struck southern Turkey and neighbouring Syria on February 6 killed more than 46,000 people and caused more than $100 billion in damage, according to the UN. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
