Description
In the courtyard of his apartment building in Tbilisi, Zurab Japaridze, the leader of a small Georgian opposition party, shows the marks on his head. Still visible, they are the result of blows he says he suffered at the hands of police five days ago, when anti-government protests were at their peak. "I took some beating here, mostly on the head" he says. "We need to maintain this pressure... it's not over. It's just one battle. But we need to win the war", he adds. 144 people were arrested during massive demonstrations against the controversial "foreign agent" bill that many likened to repressive Russian legislation used to limit civil society. Late last week, the bill was abandoned by Georgia's parliament. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
